Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born and raised from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine is an ex-backup artist from Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her a job as the curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the landmark. She was a graduate in 2005 of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was a vocal music major. Sullivan sang as a contralto singer for the youth choir, and then sang in the adult chorus. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially limited "I performed solos at the church, and I was asked to be a part of the gospel label at age was 11, but I was not prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for kids in major cities I had the opportunity to sing 'Accept Whatever God Gives' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". She performed with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year thirteen. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. The label initially signed Sullivan to Jive Records around the age of 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott and produced a number of the tracks from her debut, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
